cobham & stoke d'abernon Railway Station

ABOUT COBHAM & STOKE D'ABERNON RAILWAY STATION
Cobham & Stoke D'Abernon railway station is on the NGL line between Oxshott and Effingham Junction at 18m1386y. It has 2 platforms which are adapted to manage 10 car trains. There are 2 main line running rails operating a mostly stopping service with interspersed fast trains. Platform 1 is 202m and platform 2 is 206m long according to the sectional appendix.

The station is of old construction and the walking route between platforms is via an overbridge. There is sufficient trunking through the overbridge but the capacity could not be determined on this survey.

Much of the station platform canopy area is served by high level trunking, however this could not be ascertained if there was any spare capacity.

The SISS cabinet is located externally adjacent to the overbridge stairs on platform 1 and access to survey this was not obtained. Therefore there is a requirement for an additional cabinet at this station to locate any additional equipment.

The SISS on the station consists of ANDUS on both platforms.

ACCESS/EGRESS
Access to platform 1 is via walk way from the main entrance and platform 2 is accessed via the overbridge.

Access to both the fibre node joint and he copper joint is via the authorised walking route in the down cess from platform 2

NEAREST NODE/JUNCTION
The nearest fibre node is located up from platform 2.
Fibre Node 2407 @ 17m436y

NEAREST JOINT
The nearest copper joint is just off the down end of platform 2.
Fibre Joint @ 18m435y
Copper Joint C2106 @ 18m1505y

NODE INTERCONNECTION OPTIONS
The nearest node joint is a long distance on the up line and would prove expensive to run additional cable to the station. The two options available would be to make a connection to the copper joint at the down side of platform 2 or create a new fibre joint in a similar area off of the existing fibre run.

...if interconnecting at the existing fibre joint
The joint is 1070y on the up and there is tidy SCT (surface concrete troughing) as far as the survey would permit. The route from the end of the platform would require new tray to the overbridge and additional trunking to span this. The trunking connects to a new external cabinet located near the existing SISS cabinet on platform 1.

...if interconnecting to the copper joint
Utilise the existing route to the overbridge. New trunking would be required to cable across the bridge as the existing trunking is not suitable. The trunking connects to a new external cabinet located near the existing SISS cabinet on platform 1.

NOTES & RISKS

Equipment room suitable for node

There is only an external cabinet which could not be surveyed due to access.

Internal/external housing required

External

Station trunking suitable

Some supplementary work required to interconnect to routes toward the node.

External ducting segregated

It was not clear from the survey if the ducting is segregated.

External ducting clear/roped/accessible

Unknown, assume rodding and roping could be required along platform 2 extension to the overbridge.

Power supply suitable

ET&I unavailable.

ET&I records obtained

No records available at the electrical room.

Power supply residual issues from ET&I

Unlikely but subject to ET&I documentation

Vandalism issues

None advised by station staff.

SSSI issues

None advised by station staff.

Other environmental issues e.g. rodents

None advised by station staff.

Existing support structures suitable

 SISS equipment utilise standard fixings

Existing guttering and drainage suitable

There does not appear to be any canopy drainage issues, however there does seem to be an excess of moisture in the subway which would require attention.

Listed building / heritage issues

None advised by station staff.

Noise abatement issues

None advised by station staff.

Pedflow and changes of function

None advised by station staff.

Issues left behind by previous projects

None advised by station staff.

Issues with exit from station to lineside

Possible tray/ducting required to lineside as capacity not confirmed and some supplementary work to existing route.

Any local issues, affecting subsequent work

Adequate car park.

SUMMARY
A connection to the copper joint would be less problematic and a cheaper solution in the short term but would suggest a connection to the fibre joint as this gives more versatility and provides future proofing for the station when upgrading data speed.
